Do You Have the MIDAS Touch?

Posted by Migraine Relief Center on Sep 30, 2013 7:00:00 AM

The Migraine Disability Assessment (MIDAS) is a questionnaire that was developed to measure the effect of migraines on your daily life.

Are You Ready to Take the Test?

These questions are used to determine your score, which is then matched with a level of disability.

  1. How many days in the last three months did you miss work or school because of your headaches?
  2. How many days in the last three months was your productivity at work or school reduced by at least half because of your headaches? (Do not include the days you counted in question 1.)midas
  3. How many days in the last three months did you not do household work because of your headaches?
  4. How many days in the last three months was your productivity in household work reduced by at least half because of your headaches? (Do not include the days you counted in question 3.)
  5. How many days in the last three months did you miss family, social or leisure activities because of your headaches?

Tally Up Your Score

After you have answered the previous questions, add up the amount of days to determine your level of "disability."

  • 0 to 5, MIDAS Grade I: Little or no disability
  • 6 to 10, MIDAS Grade II: Mild disability
  • 11 to 20, MIDAS Grade III: Moderate disability
  • 21 or more, MIDAS Grade IV: Severe disability

MIDAS was first published in The Journal of Head and Face Pain. It is an effective way to gauge where you stand on the migraine spectrum. It also helps health care providers get more insight into your migraine history. Specific treatments will be determined by your health care provider. The doctors at The Migraine Relief Center can devise a comprehensive approach to treat your headache symptoms.
